Wedding Season

Summer is upon us, which means wedding-themed flicks are all over the box office. "The Proposal," starring Sandra Bullock as a corporate executive and Ryan Reynolds as the employee who's forced to pretend they're engaged, scored $34.1 million on its opening weekend. The romantic comedy beat out all the competition, including previous number-one draw "The Hangover," about a Vegas bachelor party gone outrageously wrong.

So what's in store for next year's wedding crop?

First off we have "Family Wedding," to star comedian Carlos Mencia, Forest Whitaker ("The Last King of Scotland"), and "Ugly Betty" herself, America Ferrera. The story depicts the humorous culture clash that occurs between a Latino family and an African American family when their children fall in love. Lance Gross ("Meet the Browns") will portray the young groom engaged to Ferrera.

Secondly, Jerry Seinfeld will return to the small screen next March with "The Marriage Ref," a kinda-sorta reality TV show for NBC in which Seinfeld and various other celebrities help married couples air and overcome their issues.

Last but not least, Kristen Bell ("Veronica Mars" and "Forgetting Sarah Marshall") is set to star in "You Again," a comedy about a successful young career woman who's horrified to learn that her brother has become engaged to her high school tormentor. She'll be joined by a veritable powerhouse of great actresses like Sigourney Weaver, Kristin Chenoweth, Jamie Lee Curtis and Betty White ("Golden Girls").

Speaking of powerhouse female stars...

Cher is back! Ten years after her last film role, she's set to co-star in a modern musical, "Burlesque," with Christina Aguilera. Cher will portray an ex-dancer who's now the owner of a Hollywood burlesque club. She'll get to put her singing chops to work, too, of course. One of the screenwriters for "Burlesque" is Susannah Grant, best known for penning "Erin Brockovich," the movie that finally gave Julia Roberts an Oscar.

NCIS steals a trick from CSI

The long-running series about Naval Criminal Investigators has decided to become a franchise and add an L.A. branch. Starting this fall on CBS, you can tune in to "NCIS: Los Angeles" and watch Chris O'Donnell and LL Cool J solving crimes.

Happy viewing!
