"The Daily Show" spins off two more regulars

Fans of Comedy Central's "The Daily Show," listen up! Both Demetri Martin and Lewis Black are debuting new programs. Martin, the New York tipster who frequently makes Jon Stewart crack up on air, is slated to headline his own sketch comedy / variety show in 2008. It's called "Important Things with Demetri Martin" and the format is kind of like "Chappelle's Show" used to be: stand up-performances for a live audience interspersed with taped sketches.

Lewis Black, the angry host of "Back in Black," a "Daily Show" segment in which he yells about the news stories that most annoy him, is a comedian, actor and author. He'll put all three skills to use in his new program, "The Root of All Evil." As moderator, he'll host two guests per show, and have them face off against one other in discussions of pop culture.

Sounds like Black and Martin are on the right track. After all, the last person to spin-off from "The Daily Show" was Stephen Colbert.

"CSI: New York" Goes Virtual

Ever wonder what it would be like to be a crime scene investigator? Now's your chance -- sort of.  CBS's "CSI: New York," which is considered by many to be the grittiest of the CSI programs, is venturing into Second Life, a vast online community. A two-part episode, airing in October 2007 and February 2008, will depict characters on the TV show tracking real criminals through their online personas or avatars. You can get in on the action yourself by joining Second Life and heading to virtual Manhattan to solve crimes CSI style.

Welcome Back, Charlie Brown and Snoopy

Every year when Halloween and Christmas draw near, I look forward to seeing Charlie Brown and the rest of the Peanuts. "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" and "A Charlie Brown Christmas" were two of my favorite cartoons as a kid (and even today, shh).

Did you know there was also a Thanksgiving special ("A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving," natch), a Valentine special ("Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown") and an Easter special ("It's the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown")?  And those are just the tip of the iceberg. Warner Home Video has purchased the rights to all the Peanuts classics, some of which you've probably never seen before. All the old animated specials have been re-mastered and packaged together for the first time on DVD.

Could be a fun gift this holiday season.

"Grey's Anatomy" Casting News

ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" just booked Lauren Stamile for a recurring role.  The actress has extensive guest-starring credits on shows as diverse as "Criminal Minds," "Summerland," "Rules of Engagement" and "Crossing Jordan."  Hmm, how will she shake up the doctors' love lives at Seattle Grace?

Seth Green is also checking in to "Grey"'s as a patient for two episodes. The actor, best known at the moment for his voice-over work on "Family Guy" and his twisted story-telling (writing, directing and more) on Cartoon Network's "Robot Chicken," has told a few magazines that "Grey's Anatomy" is one of his favorite shows.
