Louisa Bertman is a Cambridge based artist and designer.  After receiving a BFA in Illustration from Parson’s School of Design - NYC, she used her illustrations to promote awareness for AIDS and The Holocaust. Her work has been published in various Medical Books and Jewish Media Journals.  In the late 1990s, she collaborated with her mother, Sandra Bertman, Ph.D., on a book that used the alphabet to promote awareness of the AIDS virus. Louisa is currently illustrating a children's book written by ex-Tribe band member, Terri Brossius.

In recent years Louisa has become particularly interested in portraiture -- focusing on encapsulating the quirky realities of the "sane" individual. Attempting to find the many unseen personalities, which truly make up the person.  Her portraits do not shy away from depicting the grotesque or flinch at discovering inner beauty.  She has spent the last several years painting portraits of just about anyone; from friends, family members, and children, to pets and politicians.  Her portraits are done in pen and ink and watercolor on canvas.

Louisa is also an accomplished graphic designer who has created logos, print designs, and web sites for a number of corporate clients (AT&T, IBM, Nynex, Fidelity) as well as artists, architects, musicians, books, libraries, and film (Marcus Schulkind, Provincetown Arts Magazine, The Boston Design Guide, H.P. Rovinelli Architects, Scatterfield, The Mapmakers Wife, The Thomas Crane Public Library, X-Files, Matzo & Mistletoe).  She is the founding director of Digitalclay Interactive, Ltd., a small local company that produces high quality graphics, animation and design.

In 2004, Louisa studied 3-D animation and is currently working on a short animated film titled "Tits" which is a humorous take on how the world responds to a nursing mother.

Her intrigue with 3D animation has recently evolved into architecture -- not too surprising seeing as she is the daughter of renowned Boston architect, Richard Bertman. This interest is what initiated Elevation 3D, a virtual 3D architectural rendering & animation company Louisa and 2 colleagues from New York and LA have begun.

Louisa resides in Cambridge with her husband, James, and two daughters, Kiva and Rayna. Her website, www.louisabertman.com is currently being updated with new paintings as well as information on future shows.
