  Poetry

  Swinging
  By Sonya Caruso

In the park, sun beating
on our steaming bodies
you push me,

I sway forward.
my back towards you,
you stand firm
in your place,
firm in your resolution.

Again, I sway forward.
Back, to the same old
discussion,
“friends,” you say
and I hear it echo
in my mind .

I sway back.
Forward-you say-it is time
to move forward.
But, I am still lingering
in the memories of us.

I sway back.
Forward, my thoughts move
To a solemn life
without you.

You give the swing one
last hard push.
I am lifted to the trees
my thoughts
suspended in air,
with one abrupt swoosh
I am forced
to abate
all of my dreams.
